Creating and editing pages

General concepts

Information on the wiki is broken up into categories. Some of the categories are listed below with specific information on how the information is organized for clarity and ease of use.

Most of the categories have a form that allows for easy editing. The forms provide some formatting for the text. Form fields that will be seen in a table or the physicians grid accept comma separated values. The commas are replaced with bullet points when displayed. The free text fields accept WikiText markup. Wiki markup syntax is explained on this page. You can also use the Help about MediaWiki link in the sidebar. This page has a wealth of information about using MediaWiki. The formatting link in the editing column is where you find the markup language explanation.

You can also add your text and switch to the visual editor to format, but you risk breaking the code that allows you to use the form. While this won't affect the appearance of the page, it might make it difficult to make changes later.

Physicians

Click on the appropriate link above. Enter the physicians name, last name first for alphabetical listing. If the physician already has a page, the name will autocomplete and you can select it for editing. There is also a link on each physicians detail page for editing.

Separate multiple items in each form field with commas. The items will be displayed on separate lines with bullet points. The free text area at the bottom of the form accepts WikiText markup. This is where you would put physician specific setups and notes.

Making changes on the physicians prefs page will automatically update the physicians grid. You may need to hit refresh at the top of the page to force it to reload from the database.

Procedures

Procedure pages work similarly to physician pages. The links above will take you to the procedure listing for that department. There are columns for procedures, products, and setups. Links for creating and editing these items are below the listings.

Most of the formatting in the product and procedure steps fields can be done with the asterisk and hashtag. These make bullet points and numbered steps respectively. You can also create a blank page, switch to the visual editor, enter and format your text, and then switch to the edit tab. Copy and paste the wiki markup text there to your procedure page. This is also a great way to learn wiki text.

Once you create a procedure page, it will be listed on that departments procedures list page. You may need to refresh the page a few times to force the database to update and display the new page.

Setups

Setups are a middle ground category that aren't a full blown procedure, but are not as simple as opening a product. Or a room setup that's used for several procedures. Examples:

The form for editing setups is very basic. Check boxes for category, and a free text area. Since set ups don't have a firm definition of how information is displayed, you will be using wikitext in the free text area for the entire page.

Products

Links to add and edit products are at the bottom of the page.

Product entries have only a few fields: Company, IFU link, Info Page, Product Rep. Company is self-explanatory. IFU Link is a field where you can put a link to the instructions for use on the company website. Info page can be used for a link to the general information page on the company website. And product rep allows you to link to a product rep page which you will also have to enter that will contain the contact information for the rep responsible for this product. Below these fields you have a free text area where you can add whatever information you need, including a in-house quick guide for location, common settings used in the lab, et cetera. See the Rotablator page for an example. You can make products listed on procedure and preference pages linkable by enclosing in double brackets in the form or edit source windows. Brackets added from the visual editor will show up in the web page and not be parsed as a link. Example: [[ProClose]] in the wiki text will show up as ProClose. This can be handy when setting up for a procedure and looking up location or setup for a particular product.

Reps and Companies

Links to add and edit companies are at the bottom of the page.

Reps and companies and products can be added in any order and then associated with each other from the edit page. As previously mentioned, you may need to use the refresh link at the top of the page to see changes.
